Volkswagen-ID-Buzz-2022

Volkswagen has finally unveiled its new model in all its glory: I WOULD. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo. Two fully electric versions of the ID. Buzz takes a cue from one of the greatest automotive icons, the Volkswagen T1. I WOULD. The Buzz will be produced and delivered with a carbon neutral footprint, a first for minivans and delivery vehicles.

I WOULD. Buzz and ID. The Buzz Cargo will hit European showrooms later this year, with pre-sales of these models starting in the second quarter of 2022. Both versions of the model will be equipped with batteries with a usable capacity of 77 kWh (82 kWh gross). The power source will be a 204 hp electric motor located at the rear of the car. When charging with AC, the maximum power is 11 kW, and when using DC, it increases even to 170 kW. At a fast charging station, it takes about 30 minutes to replenish energy from 5 to 80 percent. Like other models of the ID family, also an ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo is built on a platform designed specifically for Electric Vehicles (MEB).

Tribute T1 - equipped with ID electronics. Buzz sets the trends

On ID. Buzz Volkswagen combines and develops the most important automotive trends of today with the characteristic features of the Volkswagen delivery truck. Effect? An electric car as progressive as it is versatile: the ID. Buzz offers an intelligent combination of driver assistance and information systems, as well as remote software updates. An iconic design completes the look.

“There is one unique feature that I would like to highlight is the charm of the T1 that comes with the ID. Buzz will be back on the roads,” said Albert Kirzinger, head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, describing the new vehicles.

I WOULD. The Buzz is not the first electric T model, 50 years ago Volkswagen decided to present the T2 at the Hannover Fair with an electric motor driving the rear axle. The maximum flight range then was 85 kilometers, and the battery technology left much to be desired, but already in 1972 the dream of an all-electric Model T was born, which today is becoming a reality. “In T1, you practically sat on the front axle, the car had practically no overhang. Today there are strict safety standards, but the car is designed with the shortest possible overhangs, both front and rear,” Kirzinger adds.

Seven polishes and four two-tone options to choose from

Volkswagen will offer ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo, like the classic Bulli - in one or two colors. In total, there are 11 options to choose from - white, silver, yellow, blue, orange, green and black, as well as four two-tone options. When ordering a car in the latter version, the upper part of the body along with the roof will always be white. The rest of the body may be green, yellow, blue or orange.

Interior can be matched to body color

When you open the door, you will see that ID. The Buzz not only has a spacious cabin with comfortable seats and plenty of space, but is also modern and the mix of materials blends perfectly together. According to the preferences of the future owner, there may be elements in the cabin that will be matched in color to the paintwork. These are inserts on the seats, door panels and elements on the dashboard.

The interior is stylish, but also crammed with electronics. All sensors are digital and conveniently located within sight. The digital clock has a screen size of 5.3 inches, and the multimedia system display is located in the center of the dashboard. It comes standard with a 10-inch diagonal, while a 2-inch larger version will be offered at an additional cost. Both the clock and the multimedia screen are connected to the dashboard only at the bottom edge, which gives the impression that they are "suspended" in the air. On a personal ID. Buzz will include We Connect, We Connect Plus, App-Connect systems (with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto) and a DAB+ tuner (in ID. Buzz Cargo, the last two items will be available as an option).

Compact car with exceptionally large usable space

With a length of less than 5 meters (4712 mm) and a wheelbase of 2988 mm, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz offers an exceptional amount of space in the cabin. In the five-passenger version, the car will also offer plenty of luggage space, up to 1,121 liters. With the second row of seats folded down, cargo capacity almost doubles to 2,205 litres, with plans to introduce six and seven-seat versions with longer wheelbases in the future. In the case of a layout with three or two seats and a partition in the cargo compartment ID. Buzz Cargo will offer 3.9 m3 of luggage space, which will allow the transport of two Euro pallets.

204 HP and rear-wheel drive - doesn't that sound exciting?

I WOULD. The Buzz will be powered by batteries with a total capacity of 82 kWh (usable capacity 77 kWh) driving a 204 hp electric motor integrated with the rear axle it drives. In this configuration, top speed is electronically limited to 145 km/h. A low center of gravity and high torque (310 Nm) distinguish the ID. Buzz is a very manoeuvrable machine.

Thanks to fast charging technology and power consumption up to 170 kW, the battery can be charged from 5 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

Technology at the service of comfort

In case of ID. Buzz and other models of the ID family. software updates can be downloaded remotely. Both related to the infotainment system, and related to charging or functions that support the driver. The range of driver assistance systems includes innovative connected technologies such as the new "Trained Parking" (automatic maneuvering to and from parking spaces), "Car2X" (warnings of nearby dangers) and the latest version of "Travel Assist" using crowdsourced data; the system allows semi-automatic driving over the entire speed range.

No leather and lots of recycled materials

Thanks to the focus on reducing the carbon footprint of the entire Volkswagen Group product portfolio in the production of the ID. Buzz is widely used from recycled materials. An example of such a solution is a yarn fabric whose fibers are 10 percent plastic collected from the oceans and 90 percent polyester or recycled PET bottles. In vain will look for ID in the booth. Buzzing from leather or other animal materials. The steering wheel rim will be made of plastic, which, due to its structure, looks almost like leather and is just as pleasant to the touch.

Even easier to charge on the go

Thanks to the modern Plug & Charge technology that will be used in the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, it's going to be even easier to charge your batteries. To start charging, it will be enough to connect the cable to one of the charging stations cooperating with Volkswagen. When the car is connected to charging, the car will be “recognized” by the station, and payment will be made, for example, on the basis of the “Charge” agreement, which will eliminate the need for a card and greatly simplify the charging process.
