Compact hybrid with 245 hp: Audi A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e
Audi continues its compact car electrification campaign with the Audi A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e coming soon to the market – a sporty, powerful model with comfortable equipment. Its plug-in hybrid drive has a system output of 180 kW (245 hp) and a system torque of 400 Nm.
Audi A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e
The new A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e, like its sister model, is equipped with a 1.4-litre petrol engine. Its output is 110 kW (150 hp) and develops a torque of 250 Nm. The electric drive is a constant excitation electric motor with a power of 80 kW and a torque of 330 Nm. Compared to the A3 40 TFSI e, the control software generates an additional 30 kW (41 hp) of system power and 50 Nm more torque. To ensure maximum power requirements, the software regulates the optimal interaction between the two drives.
The electric motor complements the internal combustion engine in the respective speed ranges and is integrated into the body of the six-speed S tronic automatic transmission, which sends power from the transmission to the front wheels. The lithium-ion battery with 96 prismatic cells stores 13.0 kWh of energy. The maximum output of the A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e is 2.9 kW. A depleted battery can be charged from a regular household outlet in about five hours.
High performance and long range
With a system output of 180 kW (245 hp) and a torque of 400 Nm, this compact PHEV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Its maximum speed is 232 km/h. The car consumes 1.4 to 1.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km (estimated by the NEDC cycle), which corresponds to the emission of 31 to 34 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The Audi A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e always runs on electricity only. According to NEDC standards, it can travel up to 74 km (63 km according to WLTP standards) without emitting any pollutants into the atmosphere. In purely electric mode, the top speed is 140 km/h.
Four driving modes
In Auto Hybrid mode, the vehicle's primary mode of operation, the internal combustion engine and electric motor work intelligently together. Depending on the situation and the preferences of the driver, the car can run on an electric motor or an internal combustion engine, and at the same time float, recuperate - both in driving mode and when braking - or receive additional power (so-called boosting). When the driver selects "Battery hold" or "Battery charge", hybrid control maintains the battery state of charge at a constant level or increases it in a targeted manner. By pressing the EV button, the driver can make the electric drive a priority.
The driver controls the vehicle functions via the central MMI display, the six-speed S tronic or the Audi drive select driving dynamics management system. Special animations inform the driver about driving activities such as engine power, driving mode, battery charge status and range. The MMI display also shows a visualization of the energy flow.
Sport equipment
The exterior of the Audi A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e is distinguished by its expressive design. The Black Styling Package and the Singleframe grille with high-gloss black inserts emphasize the vehicle's sporty style. On request, Audi can install Matrix LED headlights with high beams and dynamic cornering lights.
The digital daytime running lights, made up of 15 LED segments, create an E-shaped light signature, the symbol of the plug-in hybrid drive. The brake discs behind the 18-inch wheels are larger than those of the 40 TFSI e - 340 mm at the front and 310 mm at the rear. All brake calipers are painted red. Unlike the 40 TFSI e, Audi drive select, sports seats, tinted windows and dual-zone automatic air conditioning are standard equipment. In addition, the standard also includes full LED headlights with rear dynamic indicators, Audi parking assist, front and rear parking sensors, park assist, rearview camera and alarm. The new Audi A3 Sportback 45 TFSI e is equipped with Keyless go as standard and a convenience key as an option.
