Mazda North America Operations Introduces Mazda CX-50

Mazda North America Operations has unveiled the Mazda CX-50, an all-new SUV designed exclusively for the North American market. It will be the first Mazda model to be produced at the new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) plant in Huntsville, Alabama.

Production of the Mazda CX-50 under MTM is scheduled to begin in January 2022. MTM is a joint venture between both manufacturers (50:50) with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons. units of cars (150 thousand for each manufacturer). MTM is part of a broader collaboration that includes the joint development of electric vehicle technologies, connected service systems and advanced safety systems.

The Mazda CX-50 will join the lineup of American models that stand above the Mazda CX-5. Sharing a platform with the Mazda 3 and Mazda CX-30, Mazda's latest generation SUV will initially be powered by one of two 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G petrol engines, with electrified units later on. The new model is equipped with the latest i-Activ AWD drive system and Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive), which offers different driving modes depending on changing conditions.

While the Mazda CX-50's sleek and expressive exterior design highlights improved off-road capability, the layout and quality of the cabin interior, which is new to Mazda with a panoramic sunroof, shows the brand is constantly focused on delivering the best possible driving experience.

Mazda CX-60 and Mazda CX-80

The premiere of a completely new model follows the presentation of two larger SUV models that will hit the European market in the next two years. The two-row Mazda CX-60 and the spacious three-row Mazda CX-80 are announcing the introduction of petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrains in Europe.

The offering will also include the new generation Skyactiv-X six-cylinder self-ignition inline engine and the Skyactiv-D diesel engine with a 48-volt hybrid system in the form of a mild hybrid that combines high power and low emissions.
