Nissan starts production of new Townstar electric car in Europe

Just a few days after World Electric Vehicle Day, Nissan has announced the start of production of the new Townstar all-electric vehicle for selected European markets.

The introduction of the all-electric version of the Nissan Townstar not only reflects the tremendous progress made in the Ambition 2030 program, but also represents another milestone in the company's quest to electrify the range and become carbon neutral by 2050. The latest model in Nissan's lineup offers customers even more EV solutions that enable them to adapt to changing emissions regulations, urbanization and the ever-expanding e-commerce industry.

The Nissan Townstar EV is set to continue the success of the e-NV200.

Extensive experience in the field of light electric commercial vehicles was used in the design. Townstar was designed for business customers who value ease of use, reliability and environmentally friendly solutions.

The new Nissan Townstar, built on the CMF-V platform, will be built at the Alliance plant in Maubeuge, France, which specializes in small delivery vehicles.

The all-electric version of the Nissan Townstar is powered by an intelligent energy management unit with an efficient battery cooling system. The aerodynamic design delivers the efficiency that the Townstar EV boasts of an impressive range of up to 300 km (on the WLTP cycle). Under the hood is a 122 hp engine. with a maximum torque of 245 Nm. The Townstar EV is equipped with a 45 kWh battery and can be charged with AC (11 kW or 22 kW) or DC fast charging terminals (CCS receptacle). In the second mode, the battery can be charged from 15% to 80% in just 37 minutes.

The new Townstar EV features fresh, innovative styling that echoes other electrified Nissan models. The specially designed aerodynamic front grille is adorned with an intricate Kumiko pattern that symbolizes the brand's Japanese DNA and adds a touch of high-end styling.

The interior of the new Nissan Townstar EV shows that customer satisfaction and ergonomics come first. Equipped with over 20 different technologies, including on-board mobility services and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, the Townstar EV is the most technologically advanced vehicle in Nissan's current LCV lineup.

The all-electric Townstar is also the first model in Nissan's light commercial vehicle lineup to feature the advanced ProPILOT Assist driving assistance system. This technology, together with a unique 360° camera system, will provide additional support for drivers. It is also available, among other things, a heated steering wheel, heated windshield and heated front seats for added comfort in the cabin. On the other hand, a heat pump improves both performance and comfort on cold days by distributing heat from the battery to the cabin.

“Our experience in electrification and our leadership in the light commercial vehicle segment were key elements in the development of the all-electric Townstar,” said Emmanuel Serazin. “We are convinced that the array of advanced safety features, customizable versatility and functionality of the new Nissan Townstar EV is ideal for a sustainable business,” she added.

Other key features of the new model are a load capacity of up to 800 kg and a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 1,500 kg with trailer towed. The universal cargo space has a volume of 3.3 to 4.9 cubic meters, which means that two Euro pallets can easily fit there.

A suite of advanced driver assistance technologies designed for people on the move, including Blind Spot Warning, Parking Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Emergency Braking with Bicycle and Pedestrian Detection, Safety from lateral gusts of wind and a trailer gauge stabilization system.

All Nissan LCVs are backed by the industry's longest warranty of five years or 160,000 years. km, which confirms the brand's concern for quality. Townstar EV extends this offer with an 8-year battery capacity warranty (up to 70% capacity).
