Honda CR-V 6th Generation 2023

Honda has unveiled the sixth generation of its best-selling SUV, the Honda CR-V, which goes on sale in Europe later this year and raises the bar for design, practicality and everyday convenience.

Unveiled at a European media event at Honda's R&D center in Offenbach, Germany, the all-new CR-V has been improved in every way to create the ultimate all-round SUV. The vehicle combines the advanced technology and sporting qualities for which the Honda brand is renowned, with the latest active driver assistance and passive safety systems, to provide exceptional reliability, dynamics and comfort. With an emphasis on high-quality materials and fabrics in the cabin, the CR-V has moved into the premium segment.

"The new CR-V builds on everything that Honda's iconic model stands for: progressive design, premium interiors, best-in-class safety, practicality and comfort, as well as economy and dynamism," said Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President president of Honda Motor. Europe Ltd. “The latest CR-V is a recipe for an SUV model that is unique, dynamic and premium, perfectly suited to the current demands of the European market.”

The CR-V will be offered with a full hybrid (e:HEV) transmission or, for the first time in Europe, a plug-in hybrid (e:PHEV) transmission. Both variants are powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, direct-injection Atkinson cycle petrol engine that has been modified to enhance the car's efficiency, refinement and performance in every available version.

The e:PHEV powertrain uses the same lightweight and efficient electric motors as the e:HEV powertrain, delivering impressive acceleration, fast external charging and very good electric range.

The plug-in CR-V offers a range of 82 km in all-electric mode, allowing you to make most daily commutes using only electric motors. At a battery temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius, a full charge can be achieved in as little as 2.5 hours, starting from a completely discharged battery.

The vehicle will feature the most advanced version of the award-winning e:HEV full hybrid powertrain. A high energy density lithium-ion battery pack and two compact and lightweight electric motors work in tandem with the gasoline engine to seamlessly switch between electric, hybrid and combustion engine modes, making the transmission ideal for all driving scenarios.

The new CR-V maintains a distinctive silhouette that has undergone a stylistic evolution that enhances the model's attractiveness and recognizability. The changes start with a more pronounced styling at the front, where the e:HEV and e:PHEV variants differ in the design of the air intake grilles. Elegant headlights paired with distinctive new daytime running lights create a striking visual impact, while the vertical combination of brake and turn signal lights at the rear is a clever evolution of the earlier CR-V's instantly recognizable taillight design.

Visibility was another key issue in the exterior design. The CR-V's front corners are low, but the wide, sleek bonnet gives the driver an easy feel for the overall shape of the car. With its large glass area, the CR-V provides excellent visibility for both driver and passengers, reducing stress, increasing the feeling of open space and providing a sense of security and confidence for everyone on board.

An evolutionary body design masks the increase in all dimensions of the new CR-V. Wider, longer and taller than its predecessor, the new CR-V offers passengers more interior space. The 38mm longer wheelbase provides 15mm more legroom for rear passengers and more luggage space on the 18%. Eight-way adjustable rear seatbacks with an angle increase of 10.5° allow passengers to relax more comfortably.

An updated suite of Honda SENSING systems and new design features contribute to class-leading active and passive safety. The new CR-V is the first model to feature Honda's SENSING 360, a patented multi-directional safety and driver assistance system that closes blind spots around the vehicle and further aids collision avoidance by reducing driver stress.
