The unique character of BMW's largest SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) is now greatly enhanced by a clearly redesigned design with a particularly expressive front end, a new M Sport package, factory-made alloy wheels up to 23 inches and the latest generation iDrive control system with BMW's curved display and operating system. The new BMW X7 is at the center of the Bavarian premium carmaker's current push for the most exclusive models. It is produced at the BMW Group's American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which is the center of excellence for BMW X models. The global launch of the new BMW X7 will begin in August 2022.
Exterior design: exclusive design, progressive style
With its versatile performance, the largest model in the BMW X family impresses with both its elegant appearance on the road and its off-road performance. The completely redesigned exterior further enhances the car's exclusive image. The new BMW X7's affiliation with the brand's luxury portfolio is also underscored more clearly than ever. The redesigned front end highlights distinctive BMW design features such as the twin round headlights and BMW grille, which are reinterpreted to emphasize the car's straight silhouette and enhance its presence on the road.
The new BMW X7 uses two-piece headlights for the first time. Raised horizontal LED lighting elements at the top of the front bumper function as daytime running lights, parking lights and direction indicators. The LED modules responsible for the low and high beams below them have a dark casing and are recessed deep into the front apron, so they are somewhat "hidden" and come to the fore only when turned on. The new adaptive LED matrix headlights with anti-dazzle high beams and adaptive light distribution can now also be used as fog lamps thanks to their automatic switch-on in bad weather.
The subtle cascading illumination of both parts of the BMW kidney grille makes the front of the new BMW X7 especially bright, both when stationary and in motion. The BMW Iconic Glow grille is standard on the top-of-the-line BMW X7 M60i xDrive model and is also available as an option on other model variants. At the rear, the progressive style is emphasized by the voluminous and especially flat rear lights. The elegant chrome insert that connects the two rear lights is covered in an elegant glass cladding in the new BMW X7.
The newly developed optional M Sport package makes the BMW X7 even more dynamic. M-specific design elements on the exterior and interior underline the dynamic character of the BMW X7 M60i xDrive. The M trim in Marina Bay Blue metallic is available exclusively for the BMW M model. In addition, shimmery copper gray metallic paint is new to the exterior color scheme. The new BMW X7 comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels. The top model and models with the M Sport package have 21-inch M light-alloy wheels. And as an option, for the first time for a BMW model, 23-inch alloy wheels are available as an option from the factory.
Excellent spatial comfort, extended range of standard equipment
The excellent spatial comfort of the new BMW X7 can be experienced on three rows of seats. The second row offers three passenger seats as standard, while two particularly comfortable single seats can be ordered as an option. The driver and front passenger already sit on comfortable heated seats as standard. In European markets, extended BMW Individual leather upholstery in Merino leather is standard. In other markets, the new Sensafin upholstery is standard (not available in Europe). This noble vegan leather look is complemented by exclusive 3D stitching and perforated surfaces.
A newly designed instrument panel with flat air vents and a light bar at the bottom as standard, combined with BMW's curved display, creates a modern cockpit style dominated by cutting-edge digital technology. This innovative light bar complements the ambient lighting, which is also included as standard. Its bright illumination with LED modules and graphic design, together with the "X7" lettering or the M logo in the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive, form an integral part of the situation-specific lighting and emphasize the exclusive character of the vehicle's interior. The gear lever also features an innovative and particularly modern design.
Exemplary comfort and well-being in the new BMW X7 is also ensured by extensive standard equipment. In addition to four-zone climate control, a three-piece panoramic glass sunroof, and a Hi-Fi speaker system, it also includes comfortable front seats, a sports leather steering wheel with paddles, and a new wireless charging shelf for compatible phones. Highlights on the optional equipment offering include the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof with ambient LED lighting, Bowers & Wilkins' Diamond Surround audio system and the newly developed Travel & Comfort system. Active seat ventilation and a massage function are also available on the front seats. The Comfort package also includes heated second and third row seats, as well as a steering wheel and front armrests.
Newly developed engines with the latest 48V mild hybrid technology.
Leading the powertrain portfolio is the new 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine for the top-of-the-range BMW X7 M60i xDrive, which is based on the high-performance BMW M GmbH engines. With M TwinPowerTurbo technology and a single inter-row exhaust manifold, this unit with 390 kW (530 hp) and a maximum torque of 750 Nm develops its powerful pulling power in a particularly impressive manner.
On the other hand, the latest generation inline six-cylinder engine makes its debut in the BMW X7 xDrive. This unit incorporates numerous innovations in the combustion method, charge transfer, valve control, fuel injection and ignition system to increase both power and efficiency of the engine. The new engine develops a maximum power of 280 kW (380 hp), which is 35 kW (Li7 hp) more than the previous model, and the maximum torque is increased by 70 Nm to 520 Nm, which can be achieved in additional engine power. mild hybrid system, even 540 Nm level.
The detailed upgrade also reduces fuel consumption and emissions from the inline-six diesel engine used in the new BMW X7 xDrive 40d. The maximum engine power is 259 kW (352 hp). Thanks to the extra power of the mild hybrid system, the nominal torque of the diesel engine can be increased from 700 Nm to 720 Nm.
The most important common feature of all three engines is the integrated 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The latest version of this type of drive electrification consists of a reversible crankshaft-mounted alternator built into the gearbox, providing 9 kW (12 hp) extra power and 200 Nm extra torque. All engines are now offered with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with paddle shifters and sprint function. The driving force is transmitted via intelligent all-wheel drive BMW xDrive both on the road and on unpaved terrain as needed.
Advanced chassis optimizes agility and comfort
Features such as the adaptive air suspension on both axles and the adaptive chassis with electronically adjustable dampers, which come as standard, are responsible for the brand's typical dynamics and high comfort over long distances. In addition, the new BMW X7 M60 xDrive also comes as standard with Integrated Active Steering and Executive Drive Pro with Active Roll Stabilization. Both of these systems, as well as the xOffroad package, are also optional on six-cylinder models.
All suspension systems have been retuned to achieve the maximum difference between sporty driving performance and driving comfort. In addition, the BMW X7 M60i xDrive comes standard with 21-inch M light alloy wheels and an M Sport differential on the rear axle. Six-cylinder models are fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard. The new BMW X7 is also the brand's first model to be fitted with optional 23-inch alloy wheels from the factory.
Extended range of driver assistance systems
The comfort and safety of the new BMW X7 can be further enhanced by a significantly expanded range of automated driving and parking systems. The most important innovations include the expansion of the functionality of the forward collision warning system, which now reduces the risk of collisions with cyclists, pedestrians and oncoming vehicles also when turning. In combination with the optional Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, automatic speed limit assistant, route-to-route function and traffic signal recognition are now also available. Also new is the exit warning function, which signals the danger of a collision when the door is opened.
The standard set of functions of the parking assistant also includes rear-view cameras and a reversing assistance system. The optional Professional Parking Assistant, on the other hand, includes a reversing assistant that takes over control of the vehicle when reversing up to 200 m. In addition, there is a new trailer assist system that makes it easier for the driver to maneuver in reverse. running with the trailer attached. The new Maneuvering Assistant can remember and recreate maneuvers every time up to 200 meters away. Upon returning to the starting point, the Maneuvering Assistant assumes full control, including acceleration, braking, steering and shifting between forward and reverse. During automated maneuvering, the driver can fully concentrate on observing the vehicle's surroundings.
Latest generation BMW iDrive with Curved BMW Display
The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus in the new BMW X7 includes the display and the latest generation BMW iDrive control system. It is based on the BMW 8 operating system and includes the BMW curved display, which consists of a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch control display. The new BMW iDrive system consistently focuses on touch control, gesture control and natural speech thanks to a new set of displays and the ever-expanding capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps can be extended with the Augmented View function on the Control Display. The optional BMW Digital Key Plus allows you to lock and unlock the new BMW X7 with your iPhone using Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology for increased security. In addition, the new BMW X7 offers improved smartphone integration, a personalized BMW ID profile and eSIM technology in line with the new SG mobile telephony standard.
