BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
Uncomplicated functionality, progressive performance and significantly extended compared to the previous model and exceptionally extensive compared to the competition, make the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer a particularly attractive vehicle for active lifestyle target groups. Starting in February 2022, four front-wheel drive variants will be available, with engines ranging from 100 kW (136 hp) to 160 kW (218 hp). Produced at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, the design of the vehicle is adapted for both internal combustion engines and electrified drive systems. A few months after the debut, two plug-in hybrid models will be added to the lineup.
Design: modern crossover features, expressive front end, dynamically elongated proportions.
The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer combines lifestyle trappings with high-quality aesthetics to create a modern crossover character. The clear and minimalist shape of the surface signals a sporty character and self-confidence. The front of the car expresses this, above all, with the impressive BMW grille, which has grown in size, and the flat headlights. The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is fitted with full LED headlights as standard. Optional adaptive LED headlights with cornering light, glare-free matrix high beam, city lights, road lights and bad weather lights are available.
Significantly more sloping A-pillars than in the predecessor model, a long side window surface hidden in the surface of the door handles and narrow C-pillars contribute to the vehicle's dynamic appearance. Redesigned upper door panels near the A-pillars improve visibility. Wide shoulders and flat LED taillights give the rear of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer a particularly powerful look. The exhaust pipes are discreetly integrated into the rear bumper on all model variants.
Depending on the variant, 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels are standard. Alloy wheels up to 19 inches are available as an option. As an alternative to standard equipment, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is available in the Luxury Line version and with the M Sports package. The exterior is available in two non-metallic and nine metallic colors.
Modern premium atmosphere and sporty interior
A major redesign of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer emphasizes the grandeur and versatility of the interior. The geometry and numerous details are based on the technological interior concept of the flagship BMW iX. This has created a modern premium ambience, characterized by a flat instrument panel, a curved BMW screen, a floating armrest with an integrated control panel and a progressive reduction in the number of control elements.
The space under the armrest is used as storage space, while the space in front of it provides space for large cupholders and a new smartphone shelf. The smartphone is placed within the driver's and front passenger's field of vision and can optionally be charged wirelessly.
Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers significantly greater driving comfort over long distances in five locations. Newly developed seats with a wide range of adjustments, optionally available in Sensatek or Vernasca perforated leather. In addition, sport seats with pronounced lateral and shoulder support, electrically adjustable memory function, lumbar support and massage function are also available as an option. In addition to acoustic comfort, occupant protection has also been improved. The integrated passive safety concept is complemented by a new interactive airbag located between the front seats.
Numerous storage compartments and multiple-adjustable rear seats provide functionality for everyday use and on the road. Adjusting the backrests to the cargo position increases the luggage compartment volume to 90 liters, in addition, the rear row of seats can be moved forward by 13 cm. In combination with the 40:20:40 folding rear seatback, this provides sufficient boot capacity for a wide range of applications. It ranges from 470 to 1455 liters (BMW 218i Active Tourer, BMW 218d Active Tourer) and from 415 to 1405 liters (BMW 220i Active Tourer, BMW 223i Active Tourer). Automatic tailgate control is standard. An electrically retractable and retractable towbar is available as an option.
2-zone automatic air conditioning, sports steering wheel and BMW maps as standard.
The progressive premium character of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is also underscored by extensive standard equipment. It includes not only the BMW Maps navigation system, four USB-C sockets and one 12 V socket each in the center console and in the luggage compartment, intelligent dual-zone air conditioning, a sports leather steering wheel and a rain sensor with automatic dipped beam. beam activation, but also significantly expanded compared to its predecessor, the number of driver assistance systems and parking assistance with a rear view camera.
The new structure of the equipment packages ensures particularly precise individualisation. There are also high-quality trims and surfaces for the Sensateku dashboard and door panels with eye-catching contrasting stitching. The premium character of the car is further emphasized by high-quality options such as rear-view mirrors, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass sunroof and a Harman Kardon audio system.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: Leading innovative drive technology
The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer also plays a pioneering role in drive technology. It is not only comprehensively upgraded internal combustion engines that provide greater driving pleasure, but also lower fuel consumption and lower emissions. The latest generation 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission Steptronic, now standard on all model variants, also contributes to high efficiency. In the BMW 223i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.6-6.0 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 149-137 g/km) and in the BMW 220i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.5-5, 9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 148-133 g/km), a new version of the 48-volt mild hybrid technology will also debut. The electric motor, integrated with the automatic transmission, supports a 14 kW (19 hp) internal combustion engine.
This enables the new BMW 223i Active Tourer to deliver 160 kW (218 hp) (combined up to 150 kW (204 hp) from the internal combustion engine and up to 14 kW (19 hp) from the electric drive), while while the drive of the BMW 220i Active Tourer delivers 125 kW (170 hp) (combined combustion engine up to 115 kW (156 hp) and electric drive up to 14 kW (19 hp)). The 100 kW (136 hp) BMW 218i Active Tourer will also be available at launch (fuel consumption combined: 6.8-6.2 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 154-140 g/km ).
All petrol engines have a new combustion process and a dual injection system. The diesel engine of the new BMW 218d Active Tourer (combined fuel consumption 5.3-4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 138-125 g/km) uses optimized disc pistons and an improved two-stage turbocharger. Its maximum power is 110 kW (150 hp).
In the summer of 2022, two plug-in hybrid models will complete the range. For the first time, they will be equipped with the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology, which ensures optimized driving dynamics and a significantly longer range on electric power.
Optimum combination of sportiness and comfort over long distances
The chassis of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer combines typical BMW sporting characteristics with driving comfort in every situation. The basis for this is a body structure optimized in terms of weight and stiffness, a long wheelbase and a track that has been increased compared to the previous model.
A redesigned front axle with single-link MacPherson struts and a three-link rear axle improve steering precision and agility. Available as standard, wheel slip control next to the drive train improves traction and driving stability. Other new features include an integrated braking system and optional front axle suspension with travel-dependent damping.
