The new BMW Group training vehicle previews the Neue Klasse SAV. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X brings aesthetics, technology, sustainability and the Neue Klasse philosophy to the sports car segment. The first all-electric model based on the new architecture will go into series production at the Debrecen plant (Hungary) in 2025.

BMW Vision New Class X 2024

“Together with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, the experimental BMW Vision Neue Klasse X demonstrates the broad spectrum of our future BMW model range. Whether it is a sports sedan with all its variants or a modern SAV family, the Neue Klasse can represent the diversity of all models that inspire our customers today and will continue to do so in the future,” he says. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “We therefore emphasize that the Neue Klasse is much more than just a car or a specific concept, it is a redefinition of the BMW brand – and at the same time more BMW than ever before.”

The company presented a clear picture of the brand's future at the IAA 2023 with the unveiling of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse limousine. The latest research model now shows how BMW envisions the future of its X models. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X embodies an active lifestyle, efficient dynamics and a confident presence. Its design combines a clear stylistic language of the exterior with a bright and spacious interior. Special light and sound characteristics enhance the intuitive digital user experience in the new generation of BMW iDrive.

The three characteristics of the Neue Klasse as an electric, digital and circular car are complemented by a fourth aspect. The drive and chassis control system developed specifically for the Neue Klasse, as well as the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology, take the driving pleasure inherent in the essence of the BMW brand to a new level. In addition, there is a responsible concept of sustainability in production, operation, dismantling and recycling.

Innovative drive and suspension control

The innovative way of controlling the drive and chassis ensures a perfect driving experience, tailored to your individual needs. It is based on new software developed by the BMW Group, which ensures stable driving characteristics of the Neue Klasse in any situation. Two of the car's four new superbrains provide a new dimension to the driving pleasure of the Neue Klasse.

“The Neue Klasse takes BMW driving to an even higher level,” he says of the impressive driving experience. Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Directors for Development of BMW AG. “BMW cars of the future will be equipped with four completely new “superbrains”: high-performance computers that intelligently integrate what previously worked separately. We created the first “superbrain” on the 100% ourselves. It is responsible for the entire drive and driving dynamics. Its computing power is ten times higher than before. The second 'superbrain' allows driving automation to go even further." Weber adds. “In the future, we will combine four important controllers into one high-performance computer. The result will be greater dynamics, greater precision, greater efficiency and even greater driving pleasure.”

Design: a distinctive interpretation of BMW X models

The minimalist design language developed for the Neue Klasse, combined with the two-volume design of the BMW X, marks a significant leap in exterior and interior design. The vehicle's all-electric architecture with increased ground clearance opens up new possibilities for increasing interior space. This allows for a long wheelbase, short overhangs and typical BMW proportions. Large glass surfaces and a panoramic glass roof create the impression of a bright, airy space, complemented by warm-toned textiles.

“The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X gives you a preview of the X models within the Neue Klasse. The same applies to our higher models: electric, digital and ring,” he says. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. “X-Models will always be strong characters. Solid, clear, with an individual vertical interpretation of the BMW light sign.

The strong presence of the test vehicle is also due to the new design of the front end of the BMW X models. The vertically arranged LED modules represent a new interpretation of the typical BMW light sign. At the center of the front end is the BMW kidney grille with its three-dimensional sculpture and vertical illuminated contours. Together, the headlights and grille create a light show that activates as you approach the vehicle and continues into the cabin.

The rear also looks powerful and sporty. The rear lights, strongly elongated towards the centre, represent a horizontal interpretation of the typical BMW L shape. Their 3D-printed elements have individually adjustable light intensity, resulting in a particularly expressive depth effect.

The flush-mounted lamps and the light body paint "Coral Silver" give the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X a subtle touch. The rear of the side windows has the typical BMW C-pillar kink (the so-called Hofmeister kink), which here does not appear in the form of a chrome frame, but in the form of a “reflective print”, which, depending on the viewing angle, creates a transparent or reflective surface.

Individual user experience with BMW Panoramic Vision and HYPERSONX WHEEL

The slightly raised seat provides a superb driving experience. The new steering wheel with multifunction buttons, the central display with intuitive touch controls and BMW Panoramic Vision together with the improved voice control of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant ensure simple and intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. BMW Panoramic Vision displays the most important information across the entire width of the windshield. In production Neue Klasse models, this will be complemented by the improved BMW 3D Head-Up Display.

The central display of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X is elegantly integrated into the instrument panel and provides front seat passengers with optimal access to all infotainment functions. The displayed colors are transmitted not only to the ambient light, but also to the illuminated textile surfaces of the instrument panel.

Additional customization options are offered by the Personal Sound Experience, debuting on the new HYPERSONX WHEEL. With this digital feature, passengers can enjoy their favorite music on every trip. The user experience is enhanced by real-time audio, which can be changed with the touch of a finger on HYPERSONXWHEEL. The interior of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X thus becomes a space for individual experiences.

BMW eDrive technology: even more efficient sixth generation

The Neue Klasse takes overall vehicle efficiency to a new level. This is largely due to the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology. In addition to improved electric motors, it also includes new, now round lithium-ion battery cells. Their energy density is more than 20% higher than existing prismatic cells. Combined with the switch to an 800V system, they speed up charging by up to 30 percent. In ten minutes you can increase your range by 300 km. The sixth generation of BMW eDrive also offers a 30 percent increased range. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X also sets a new record in terms of aerodynamic performance: air resistance is reduced by 20% compared to a comparable model from the current portfolio.

Reduced CO2 emissions through resource-efficient production and supply chain

For the interior, completely vegetable and mineral surfaces that do not contain petroleum have been developed. In the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X they are used in the lower part of the door panels and on the center console. Plastics made from marine waste were first used in the production of injection molded parts. In some components, the share of this secondary raw material, obtained, among other things, from used fishing nets, is already 30 percent.

Material selection and design make components easy to disassemble and provide greater recyclability. The side sills, as well as the front and rear bumper trims, are made from recycled monomaterials. The new research model is therefore in line with the BMW i Vision Circular introduced in 2021, which focuses on the use of monomaterials to increase recyclability.

Neue Klasse also marks a new chapter in the history of production. The BMW Group plant in Debrecen (Hungary) was planned and developed as an iFACTORY. With the start of production of the Neue Klasse in 2025, it will become the world's first BMW vehicle production plant to run entirely on energy generated without the use of fossil fuels.
