For Audi, "performance" means more power. For example, larger turbochargers and an increase in boost pressure from 2.4 to 2.6 bar on the 4.0-litre TFSI V8 biturbo engine found in both the RS 6 Avant Performance and the RS 7 Sportback Performance allow for an increase in engine power of 30 hp and torque by 50 Nm compared to the basic versions. This means an overall increase in power from 441 kW (600 hp) to 463 kW (630 hp) and maximum torque from 800 to 850 Nm. These high-performance vehicles now accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds – 0.2 seconds faster than the base RS 6/RS 7 versions.

Less is sometimes better: Reduced insulation between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment, as well as at the rear of the car, ensures that the performance of the RS 6 Avant and the performance of the RS 7 Sportback will delight customers with immersive sound at the highest level. The gross curb weight of the RS 6 Avant Performance is 2090 kg, while the RS 7 Sportback Performance weighs 2065 kg.

For more dynamics: new self-locking center differential

Power from the 4.0 TFSI engine to quattro permanent all-wheel drive is sent through a standard eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission with shorter shift times. A purely mechanical center differential distributes engine power to the rear axle in a 40:60 ratio, and in the event of slippage, more torque is automatically transferred to the axle with better grip - up to 70 percent to the front axle and up to 85 percent to the rear axle. The self-locking center differential is lighter and more compact, which improves driving dynamics, provides even greater cornering accuracy and reduces understeer within system limits. In addition, responses become more accurate and passengers experience a more dynamic ride.

Exclusivity and high performance: 22" wheels with high performance tires

The new RS 6 Avant Performance and RS 7 Sportback Performance roll off the assembly line on standard 21-inch ten-spoke cast aluminum wheels and 273/35 tires. For an even sportier look, in addition to the 22" cast aluminum wheels, 22" alloy wheels are available in Burnt Black, Matt Grey, Matt Black or Matt Neodymium Gold. Motorsport-inspired, the five-letter (5-Y) spoke air design helps cool the brakes, while the lighter wheels are produced using a high-tech forging and milling process. The new lightweight wheel is about five kilograms lighter than the 22-inch alloy wheel used on the current RS 6 Avant or RS 7 Sportback. This 20 kg reduction in unsprung weight improves throttle response.

New Continental "Sport Contact 7" 285/30 high-performance tires mounted on new lightweight wheels play a key role in reducing weight. The tires provide better traction in both dry and wet conditions and reduce understeer when cornering at high speeds for more precise control throughout the speed range. In addition, with the new wheels, when braking from 100 to 0 km/h, the braking distance is two meters shorter.

Audi drive select allows the driver to control the character of the car. Six modes are available: economy, comfort, automatic, dynamic, and two customizable modes for the RS: RS1 and RS2.

However, the riding mode experience on high performance models is much more unique. For example, coasting mode is now activated automatically only in the efficiency profile, which means that up to 160 km/h it turns off the combustion engine and switches to coasting mode without fuel consumption and engine resistance. In addition, thanks to the refinement of the software of the engine control unit, when the driving mode "dynamic" or S is active, load changes are more accurate, which further increases the excitement of driving. The updated software of the gearbox control unit ensures faster gear changes and a noticeably wider spread between the individual driving modes.

RS Dynamic package as standard

The RS Dynamic Pack is standard on the RS 6 Avant Performance and RS 7 Performance models. This includes an increase in top speed to 280 km/h, dynamic all-wheel steering (a software update for the RS supports the driver with active steering corrections on the front and rear axles) and a quattro sports differential on the rear axle.

An RS Dynamics plus package is also available as an option, increasing the top speed to 305 km/h and offering an RS ceramic braking system. Buyers can order gray, red or blue calipers, as well as brake discs in sizes 440mm (front) and 370mm (rear). The RS ceramic braking system weighs approximately 34 kg less in total than its steel counterpart, reducing unsprung masses.

Fresh body colors and visual packages

The new RS 6 Avant Performance and RS 7 Sportback Performance are available in sixteen body colours. For the first time, Ascari Blue metallic or matt and Dew Silver matt appear here. Performance models have standard RS exterior cues including exterior mirrors, a front spoiler, front side mudguards, side skirts, roof rails and side window moldings, and a matte gray rear diffuser. A matte carbon/black optics package is available as an option, in which the roof rails and moldings on the side windows are black. The rings and the Audi model name are available in the customer's choice of chrome or black.

Unexpected: new accents and additions in the interior

In the interior, in addition to the already familiar RS styling packages in gray and red, blue appears. The black Alcantara steering wheel as well as the floor mats, center console side section and shift lever feature contrast stitching in Mercato Blue. The entire surface of the seat belts is painted blue with decorative carbon twill inserts with additional blue accents. The shift knob and center console sides are made from Dinamica microfiber, which on about 45% is made from recycled PET fibers, while the sports seats are upholstered in premium Valcona leather with perforated honeycomb stitching and Mercato blue contrast stitching. Another distinguishing feature is the LEDs in the front doors that illuminate the ground next to the car with "RS Performance" written on it.

Customers can order the RS styling packages in three available color options with additional options: inlays and door armrests, as well as a Dinamica microfiber center armrest. An additional advantage of this equipment variant is the seat center panel with grey, red or blue insert. At the same time, the color chosen by the customer is visible against the background of the seats and backrests of the perforated sports seats. In addition, there is an RS embossing on the backs in the matching color.

The displays of the standard 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus offer new features, including a flashing shift indicator in manual transmission mode, which changes the speed indicator from green to yellow and red to indicate the optimal shift point, flashing in the same way as in motorsport. In addition, Launch Control, which fully exploits the acceleration potential of the RS 6 Avant Performance and RS 7 Sportback Performance, uses new high-beam indicators to signal the perfect moment to accelerate from the starting line.

A tradition of performance: from the RS 6 Avant plus to the present day

The performance of the RS 6 Avant and the performance of the RS 7 Sportback of the C8 generation continue Audi's long-standing sporting strategy of systematically launching plus and performance models. It all started with the RS 6 Avant plus of the C5 generation. Shortly before the end of production of this series in 2004, quattro GmbH (now Audi Sport GmbH) produced a special limited series of 999 cars with slightly increased power. Engine power increased by 30 hp. up to 480 hp, and the model was awarded as the first Audi to officially exceed 250 km/h. Audi Sport pushed the RS 6 plus to 280 km/h, making it the fastest sports wagon of its day. Without an engine control unit, he developed a maximum speed of over 300 km / h.

The Plus variant of the C6 generation hit the market in 2008 and was released in a limited edition of 500 units. Unlike its predecessor, it did not feature extra power. The V10 retained its 580 hp. However, Audi has limited the top speed of the Avant and Limousine special editions to 303 km/h. The only faster car at the time was the Audi R8.

In the C7 generation, “plus” became “performance” – the Audi RS 6 Avant performance and RS 7 Sportback Performance rolled off the assembly line for the first time in 2016 with a slightly tuned engine. Power increased to 605 hp. - 45 hp more than the base model. The overboost function in the "dynamic" driving mode briefly increased the torque to 750 Nm, and depending on the configuration, the speed was limited to 250, 280 or 305 km/h.
