A testament to the versatility of the Dacia Jogger is that it was designed from the outset to accommodate the traction battery used in hybrid engines. It mounts under the floor panel in place of the spare wheel, similar to the gas bottle on models with the ECO-G 100 engine.

With these features, the Jogger HYBRID 140 can run in all-electric mode for up to 80% of city driving time, resulting in 40% fuel economy compared to a similar gasoline engine in city driving with the same driving style.

Kinetic energy can be recovered during deceleration and braking and converted into electrical energy to recharge the battery. The battery can also be recharged by the ICE engine using energy management principles designed to operate at optimum power (such as when the Jogger is on the highway) to get the most power from the fuel used.

This means that the battery is charged whenever the power output exceeds the required power. The excess energy can then be used to offload the internal combustion engine during hard acceleration or to provide all-electric driving when the preferred route is through urban areas.

The 1.6L engine is paired with two electric motors - a 36 kW (49 hp) engine and an HSG (High Voltage Starter Generator) - and an innovative multi-mode clutchless transmission. An innovative combination of electric motors and gearbox helps to optimize gear changes, making them smoother.

Responsiveness and energy optimization

Thanks to the combination of two electric motors, an innovative multi-mode gearbox and an internal combustion engine, the variety of operating modes is very wide.

  • All-electric starting: The lack of clutch in the innovative powertrain means the car can start acceleration in all-electric mode without relying on the internal combustion engine. Thus, hybrid vehicles use the main electric motor every time to take off. It's a nice addition that gives you instant access to torque for a very fast start.
  • Automatic adaption to the road situation: the technology is based on a series-parallel architecture that combines the best aspects of every form of hybrid engine (series, parallel and series-parallel). The motors work singly or together, directing their power to the wheels or the battery. The transmission manages the power of the engine depending on what the car might need in terms of acceleration and power, as well as battery regeneration. This is done according to 15 different riding modes which reflect different engine and transmission combinations.

While driving, switching between modes is almost imperceptible and does not require driver intervention. The system automatically selects the best mode for the situation in order to reduce emissions, optimize fuel consumption and ensure a fast and enjoyable driving experience.

Energy recovery and regenerative braking

This technology also helps optimize energy management during deceleration and braking.

  • Battery regeneration during braking: when the accelerator pedal is raised and the shift lever is in the "Drive" position, the main electric motor operates as a generator. It recovers the kinetic energy generated by the vehicle during braking and converts it into electricity, which is returned to the battery.
  • Mode "B": to recuperate more energy, the shift lever can be moved to the brake position (B). This increases the efficiency of regeneration; at maximum battery charge and braking speed of approximately 7 km/h.
  • Regenerative braking: depressing the brake pedal activates the electrical brake assist system. If necessary, further "mechanical" braking by brake pads is carried out. Here, the electric motor also provides additional braking power and can recover excess energy to return to the battery without exceeding its capacity.

The "B" mode is especially suitable for vehicles such as the Jogger, which were designed for family and leisure use. When the vehicle is carrying or towing additional weight, regenerative braking is provided by the optimized engine brake, which is sufficient in such conditions.

Dacia's first hybrid engine

The Jogger HYBRID 140 hybrid engine delivers maximum efficiency and unsurpassed dynamics on the road. for the 5-seat model, it can accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in just 8.7 seconds (8.8 seconds for the 7-seat model). Regenerative braking combined with the high self-charging capability of the 1.2 kWh (230 V) batteries and system efficiency helps to optimize energy consumption. This means it can spend up to 80% of its time on city roads in all-electric mode, which is equivalent to 40% fuel economy compared to a gasoline engine in the city, all without changing driving style. In all-electric mode, the Jogger HYBRID 140 can reach speeds of 65-70 km/h, with a top speed sometimes reaching 160 km/h. (subject to battery charge and local regulations).

On the combined cycle, the Jogger HYBRID 140 consumes 4.8 l/100 km and emits 108 g/km CO2. The capacity of the trunk is not affected by the location of the battery, which was successfully placed in place of the spare wheel: 708 dm3 in a 5-seater and from 160 to 595 dm3 in a 7-seater. And the maximum luggage capacity is still as much as 1819 dm3! In this way, the Jogger remains true to its vocation as a versatile, roomy family car.

The HYBRID 140 treadmill delivers a unique riding experience thanks to the system's innate intelligence and optimized energy management principles. The preferred transmission combination takes into account the wishes of the driver (required power) and the optimum power is continuously calculated.
