The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek debuted at the Chicago Auto Show.
Yesterday at the Chicago Auto Show, Subaru unveiled the all-new 2024 Crosstrek. The new Crosstrek offers improved performance, improved safety features and updated infotainment technology and will be available in Base, Premium, Sport and Limited trim levels.

The third generation of the compact SUV combines an all-new exterior and interior design with a new, stiffer chassis to provide a fun and comfortable ride both on and off the road.
The Crosstrek debuted 12 years ago and quickly became the best-selling car in history. Subaru in America: over one million units sold. In 2022, Crosstrek led the pack with 155,142 units per year, the best year ever. The success of the Crosstrek is due to its large passenger and cargo space, extensive list of standard and available features, versatility and capability, all in a competitively priced compact SUV.
Adventure and versatility
The Crosstrek 2024 is designed around a concept of practicality and sportiness that suits an active lifestyle. The 8.7-inch ground clearance on all Crosstrek models is greater than many SUVs while maintaining a comfortable low seating height for front and rear passengers.
Subaru's upgraded symmetrical all-wheel drive system comes standard on all models, with faster response times, more agile handling and better control both on and off the road. Driver-selectable X-MODE with Hill Descent Control provides maximum wheel control on slippery surfaces and steep grades. On Sport and Limited trims, X-MODE is a dual function that extends the range of operation in a wider range of conditions. All models are equipped with Hill Start Assist, which briefly holds the vehicle when the driver exits a stop on an incline.
The versatile Crosstrek features 60:40 folding rear seats. When both backrests are folded down, cargo space can increase to 54.7 cubic feet of usable space. The 41.0-inch low-lift rear gate provides easy loading and unloading. Standard attachment points for fixed crossbars (and standard retractable roof rails on Premium and above) expand cargo carrying options for adventurous owners.
Performance and manageability
Base and Premium models are equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine with direct fuel injection with 152 hp. and 145 lb-ft of torque. torque. In Sport and Limited trim levels, the 2.5-liter BOXER engine develops 182 hp. and torque of 178 lb-ft. torque. Standard on all trim levels is Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) for smoother, quieter operation. A manual mode with paddles on the steering wheel is available on Premium, Sport and Limited trim levels, allowing the driver to control the transmission through eight preset speeds.
The SUV's powertrain is further enhanced by the standard Active Torque Vectoring and SI-Drive efficiency management system. 17-inch wheels are standard on Base and Premium trims, while 18-inch wheels are standard on Sport and Limited trims.
The 2024 Crosstrek also gets a version of the WRX dual-pivot electronic steering for a more direct and natural steering feel and improved response.
Completely new exterior and interior design
The new look expresses an adventurous spirit with a frameless hexagonal grille, compact headlights, more sculpted bodies and broad shoulders. The black fender flares and side skirts contrast sharply with the body color.
Several functional aerodynamic improvements enhance the off-road performance and stability. An air outlet on the trailing edge of the front wheel allows air to escape more freely from the wheel arch, which helps reduce front wheel lift and improve driving stability. An additional air vent located on both sides of the rear bumper reduces body sway caused by air entering behind the bumper.
The cabin has benefited from a focus on passengers and their interaction with the vehicle. The design of the front seats, which provide more support, improves overall comfort and reduces fatigue. Efforts to reduce noise in certain frequency ranges have resulted in a quieter and more comfortable cabin. The modern interior design features a prominent central information display with controls, as well as plenty of headroom, legroom and storage space. Dark-tinted rear windows are standard.
Structure and security
Subaru's global platform for the 2024 Crosstrek has been beefed up with a 10 percent increase in torsional stiffness. Full inner frame construction with stronger welding methods and the addition of structural adhesive (from 26.2 feet to 88.5 feet) contributes to greater body rigidity and lighter weight. These updates provide improved dynamics, a smoother ride and a quieter cabin.
All 2024 Crosstrek models come standard with the latest version of our award-winning EyeSight® driver assistance technology. The improved system operates more smoothly and quickly, and in a wider range of conditions. These improvements come with a wider field of view, updated control software and the addition of an electric brake booster. EyeSight can more quickly recognize cyclists and pedestrians at intersections and warn the driver and brake if necessary to avoid a collision.
Additional active safety features available include automatic reverse braking and blind spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert.
Automated Emergency Steering is now available on models equipped with Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. This feature works in conjunction with EyeSight and Blind-Spot Detection to help steering avoid lane collisions at speeds under 50 mph.
The standard rear seat occupied reminder is designed to prevent children and/or pets from being trapped by alerting the driver to check the rear seat before leaving the vehicle.
The compact SUV has received safety awards from renowned organizations including the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is the 11th year in a row that Crosstrek has received this award (2012-2022) and received the highest "Superior" rating for frontal collision avoidance from the IIHS. Subaru predicts that the all-new 2024 Crosstrek will continue to deliver exemplary safety performance.
Comfort and convenience
All trim levels include remote keyless entry, tire pressure monitoring with individual wheel indication, LED headlights with automatic high beams, parking lights and power door locks, windows and exterior mirrors.
The car's climate control system has been updated to focus on occupied seats (rather than the entire cabin) for improved comfort and fuel economy. Dual zone heating/cooling is standard on all models.
Additional available comfort features include a wireless phone charger in the center console and an all-weather package with heated seats, mirrors and wipers.
Technology in Subaru
The Crosstrek comes standard with a central information display featuring two high-resolution SUBARU STARLINK 7.0-inch touchscreens. The top screen controls smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and Bluetooth®, hands-free calling and audio streaming; AM/FM stereo; Rear View Camera; SiriusXM® Universal Radio and Travel Link®; and HD Radio®. The lower screen contains the controls for the climate and vehicle settings.
For the first time, the 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia Plus system is available for Crosstrek. The 11.6-inch high-resolution touchscreen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with full-screen display capability. The infotainment system also functions as a central information display with combination meter integration and on-screen controls for audio, climate and vehicle functions. Additional features include hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio streaming; AM/FM stereo system; Rear View Camera; SiriusXM All-Access Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link (4-month free platinum plan); HD radio; and over-the-air updates.
Also included is an 11.6-inch STARLINK multimedia navigation system with voice navigation powered by TomTom® and SiriusXM Travel Link (3-year free subscription). The navigation system integrates What3words (W3W), an innovative location technology that provides an easy way to communicate accurate location information in just three simple words.
Available SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security Connected Services offer emergency SOS assistance, advanced roadside assistance, automatic collision notification, service notifications, monthly vehicle status report and diagnostic alerts, stolen vehicle recovery service, vehicle safety notifications. Convenient features include remote lock/unlock, remote horn and light, and remote vehicle location. New services for Crosstrek include Valet Mode, Trip Log and Driving Log, and Remote Vehicle Tuning.
For the first time, Crosstrek will be produced in the US. The 2.5-liter Sport and Limited will be built at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. in Lafayette, Indiana, and will be available at Subaru retail stores this summer. Production of the 2.0-liter Base and Premium models will continue at Subaru's Gunma plant in Japan and will be available at Subaru retailers this spring.
