Building on Lexus' unique heritage of producing more than 1.7 million electrified hybrid vehicles since 2005, the new UX 300e is a testament to the unsurpassed quality and reliability that have become the hallmark of the Japanese brand. Building on the reliability of hybrid technology and traction batteries built over the years, the first all-electric Lexus uses battery management systems, power control units (PCUs) and electric motors from a leading luxury car manufacturer.
Lexus UX 300e - new lithium-ion battery
The UX 300e is powered by a newly developed 54.3 kWh battery providing a range of up to 400 km NEDC, which equates to more than 300 km WLTP. A 288-cell lithium-ion battery is installed under the cab floor and under the rear seat to ensure the low center of gravity, practicality and space expected of an urban crossover.
Maximum reliability and battery life
To increase control over battery life, sensors monitor temperature and voltage separately in each cell and in the battery pack. Combined with the Advanced Battery Management System (BMS), they provide maximum usable battery capacity and longer range.
Lexus has developed an air-cooled battery cell system for the UX 300e. It is safer and lighter than liquid cooling systems. Thanks to the cooled air circulating inside the battery pack, it became possible to keep the power of the traction battery stable even at high driving speeds and repeated fast charging. This system, combined with the air conditioning in the cabin, increases vehicle performance, battery life and charging efficiency.
When developing a battery heating system, reliability issues were brought to the fore. Heating elements under each battery cell minimize the effect of cold on the vehicle's range, providing full power from the moment you start driving. In addition, to ensure long and trouble-free operation, the traction battery pack is equipped with rubber gaskets to protect against water and dust.
10 year warranty for traction battery
The brand's trust in the electric drive technology developed by its engineers is evidenced by the Lexus 10-year (or up to 1 million km) service warranty covering all traction battery functional failures and capacity drops below 70%, provided the owner adheres to the regular inspections provided for in the maintenance program. In addition to the traction battery warranty, the UX 300e comes with a 3-year vehicle warranty and 5-year protection (limited to 100,000 km) against powertrain defects.
“Our leading position in electrification, combined with our 10-year warranty, gives a new level of confidence to customers choosing an electric vehicle in this segment,” said Pascal Ruch, director of Lexus Europe.
Precisely engineered electric transmission
The new ultra-compact 3-shaft transmission with a ratio that allows the electric motor to reach high speeds provides best-in-class performance and extremely low noise levels. To extend the life of its components and maximize smooth operation, Lexus engineers have implemented improvements such as polished gear tooth surfaces, a noise shield and an optimized lubrication system.
Powerful electric motor
The all-new UX 300e electric drive system (BEV) uses a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor generator to drive the front wheels. This allows the car to accelerate naturally and dynamically from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h.
UX 300e built to Lexus quality standards
Ensuring that the first all-electric Lexus is of the same world-class quality as all other vehicles from the Japanese marque, the UX 300e is produced alongside electrified hybrid models at Lexus' award-winning Kyushu factory under the supervision of traditional Japanese takumi artisans. skill. Known for their precision, attention to detail and high standards, Takumi epitomizes Lexus' commitment to quality in every vehicle they manufacture.
The UX 300e will go on sale in select European markets by the end of the year.
