Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ in limousine and station wagon body styles
The sports car brand from Affalterbach presents two more models with plug-in hybrid drive – these Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ in limousine and station wagon versions. They combine exceptional performance and driving dynamics with a long electric range.
New Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ 2024
“The E-Class has been one of our most popular models for decades and we want to build on this with the launch of the new E 53 HYBRID variant. It offers typical AMG driving pleasure, excellent response, excellent driving dynamics and sporty design. The plug-in hybrid E 53 HYBRID combines high performance and efficiency. And the long range in electric mode means that many everyday trips can be completed without the use of a combustion engine.
At the same time, our new model has extensive standard equipment, including fully variable all-wheel drive and active rear steering axle. In short, we provide our customers with a vehicle that perfectly meets their high requirements,” he said. Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of Business Units G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach.
Connection The 3.0-litre 6-cylinder in-line engine and electrosynchronous motor produce a maximum system output of 430 kW (585 hp)., and with the RACE START function – 450 kW/612 hp. and maximum system torque of 750 Nm. Performance matches power: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds (limousine with RACE START, included in the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package). Top speed is electronically limited to 280 km/h (sedan with optional AMG Driver's Package). In electric mode, you can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h.
To save space, The 120 kW (163 hp) electric motor is integrated with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission.. Thanks to the use of a permanent magnet synchronous unit, a high power density of the hybrid drive module is achieved. The maximum torque of the electric motor of 480 Nm is available immediately and ensures high dynamics at start-up.
The 400V traction battery has a total capacity of 28.6 kWh and is mounted at the rear, under the boot floor. Net useful energy consumption is 21.22 kWh, as part of this energy is always reserved for sporty driving. However, the high-voltage battery allows you to travel on electric power for more than 100 km at a time.
There is an 11 kW alternating current (AC) charger on board. A 60 kW direct current (DC) fast charger is also available upon request. Thanks to this, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes. The recovery power reaches 120 kW. In DAuto mode, the energy recovery system automatically selects the level of recuperation force depending on the driving situation.
If the driver wants to influence the efficiency of energy recovery, he can select one of three levels using the instrument on the steering wheel; Program D allows you to drive virtually without using the brake pedal: when you take your foot off the gas pedal, the car slows down so much that the hydraulic foot brake is often not needed.
The basis for sporty and efficient driving is proven 3.0-liter turbocharged R6 AMG engine. The WE 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ produces 330 kW (449 hp). Compared to the previous E 53 213 series, this means an increase in power of 10 kW (14 hp). Numerous software and hardware measures help improve its efficiency.
The update includes the use of a new Twin-Scroll turbocharger with higher boost pressure (1.5 instead of 1.1 bar), as well as new software and an additional front and wheel arch radiator. The result: the 3.0-litre engine reacts spontaneously to accelerator inputs, providing a very dynamic response.
Reinforced body with numerous stiffening elements.
To take into account the high dynamic potential of the drive, the body has been modified with numerous stiffening elements. The strut between the front suspension mounts stiffens the front structure and provides increased lateral dynamics.
A plate under the engine limits front end rotation, improving steering precision. It was connected to the side members using additional racks. Stability and driving precision are also improved by the use of additional struts connected to the side members at the rear.
AMG hybrid design elements
The new Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ is immediately recognizable by its numerous unique design elements. The special AMG radiator grille with vertical slats is illuminated as standard. Wider front fenders (+11 mm on each side compared to the E-Class) provide space for a larger front axle track.
The independent AMG front bumper features highly profiled side air intakes, each of which has two vertical cross members. The large central lower air intake directs air to the additional AMG front radiator. The wheel arch also has a large opening for the radiator.
The profile is dominated by smoothly modeled surfaces without obvious embossing. Both wheel arches are visually linked by AMG-specific side sill trims, while the power and dynamics are emphasized by lightweight wheels that are almost flush with the wheel arches. The muscular rear end is complemented by flattened LED taillights with a clear, eye-catching Mercedes star pattern that emphasizes the optical width of the E-Class.
Also noteworthy are the AMG spoiler on the trunk lid (limousine only) and the AMG rear bumper with diffuser and two round twin exhaust tips on the sides.
The electrified drive is indicated by AMG hybrid emblems on the front wings and rear. The E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ is equipped as standard with 19-inch light-alloy wheels. 20-inch and 21-inch forged wheels are also available as options.
Exclusive finishing, additional super screen with monitor for passenger
The cabin impresses with its harmonious design. Special illuminated E 53 HYBRID interior trims in gray open-pore ash wood with AMG logo are available as standard. The MBUX Superscreen with passenger monitor can be ordered upon request.
The MBUX multimedia system offers displays and functions reserved for AMG vehicles, as well as the additional AMG Performance menu and the AMG TRACK PACE app (optional). In addition, there are views and functions specific to hybrid vehicles, including a charging menu. They provide information, among other things: the state of charge and temperature of the high-voltage battery, as well as the available range in electric mode.
The standard equipment includes AMG sports seats with electrical adjustment, upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre, with red contrast stitching and unique AMG graphics. Electrically adjustable AMG Performance seats are available as an option. An AMG Performance steering wheel with nappa leather upholstery and AMG buttons is included as standard.
Fully variable all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC+.
Standard all-wheel drive provides optimal traction, ensuring high stability and driving safety on dry, wet and snowy roads. The electromechanically controlled clutch distributes torque differently between the front and rear axles. The result: maximum levels of traction, driving dynamics and safety in all conditions.
Special Edition 1 model with extensive equipment
Within a year of its market launch, the new Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ will be offered in an exclusive Edition 1 version., in the body colors MANUFAKTUR alpine gray uni or MANUFAKTUR white opalite magno. Its distinctive feature is the edging with decorative black stripes that optically expand the sides of the car. The 21-inch AMG forged cross-spoke wheels are painted matt black and highlighted by high-gloss wheels. The hub caps feature an Edition badge in the form of a laurel wreath. The brake calipers with white AMG logo blend harmoniously with the wheel design.
