New 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe – elegance and driving pleasure

Mercedes-AMG-GT-43-Coupe-2024

Mercedes-AMG is expanding the portfolio of the new AMG GT Coupé with the AMG GT 43 variant. The combination of a relatively lightweight 4-cylinder engine on the front axle and rear wheel drive contributes to extremely dynamic handling, ensuring great driving pleasure.

New Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe 2024

The 2.0-liter AMG turbo engine produces 422 hp. (310 kW) at 6750 rpm i maximum torque 500 Nm in the range of 3250-5000 rpm. Its technical showcase is a turbocharger driven by a small electric motor – a solution taken from Formula 1. This form of charging guarantees particularly spontaneous responses throughout the entire rev range.

The new AMG GT 43 combines driving dynamics with increased efficiency. The turbocharger is powered by the on-board 48 V power supply, which is also powered by a belt-driven starter generator (ISG), which briefly provides additional 14 hp (10 kW) power. The second-generation ISG is also a mild-hybrid system that, in addition to temporarily improving performance, allows functions such as coasting and recuperation to reduce fuel consumption. It doesn't end there: the 48 V installation also increases comfort, because the start-stop and sailing functions are almost invisible.

Performance is proportional to the status of the AMG GT 43: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.6 seconds.and the maximum speed is 280 km/h.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission with wet clutch

In the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission (MCT = Multi-Clutch Transmission), the torque converter is replaced by a wet clutch. This solution reduces the weight of the component, and the lower inertia allows for optimized response to commands given by the accelerator pedal, especially during sprints and load changes. Carefully coordinated software ensures short shift times and rapid multiple downshifts, while the dual-clutch function in the Sport and Sport+ drive programs ensures a particularly exciting shifting experience. It also features the RACE START function, which guarantees optimal acceleration from a standing start.

Active aerodynamics for dynamism and efficiency

Technical solutions that improve aerodynamics include the AIRPANEL active air management system. The horizontal slats behind the upper air intake can be opened and closed electronically. Effect: Air flow is directed as needed, improving aerodynamic efficiency.

Usually the slats are closed - even at maximum speed. This position reduces air resistance. Only when certain temperatures of the selected components are reached and when the demand for cooling air is particularly high, the fins open and allow maximum air flow to the heat exchangers. This requires highly intelligent and fast management.

The same applies to another element of active aerodynamics: the retractable rear spoiler, which blends seamlessly with the silhouette of the new AMG GT Coupé. It changes its position depending on driving conditions, and the software that controls its position takes into account many parameters, such as driving speed, longitudinal and lateral acceleration and turning speed. From 80 km/h, the spoiler has five different tilt settings to optimize stability or reduce air resistance.

Lightweight chassis with multi-link front axle

The AMG GT 43 is equipped as standard with an AMG steel leaf spring suspension with high-performance aluminum shock absorbers and lightweight coil springs. A special feature is the multi-link front axle with five wishbones located entirely in the rim, which significantly improves its kinematics. The five-link design also guides the rear axle wheels. To reduce unsprung weight, all wishbones and steering knuckles are made from forged aluminum.

The high camber of the wheels and the rigidity of their track not only allow for high cornering speeds, but also provide the driver with optimal contact with the road in the border area. This translates into excellent lateral dynamics and driving stability at high speeds, as well as good response to external factors such as crosswinds, bumps or changes in friction coefficient.

Lightweight coil springs reduce chassis weight without sacrificing performance. During the manufacturing process, a spring washer is glued to the spring. This durable connection prevents wear and tear caused by dirt throughout the life of the vehicle. The spring is not subject to corrosion throughout its service life, and the maximum load of the element can be further increased by reducing weight (each spring is approximately 0.2 kg lighter).

Another solution in the field of lightweight design is the front and rear axle stabilizers of the new AMG GT 43 – thanks to variable wall thicknesses they are lighter in weight. The maximum wall thickness is used only where it is necessary for maximum load - in this case in the area of the rubber supports.

The latest generation of the adaptive damping system AMG RIDE CONTROL is available as an option for the AMG GT 43. The chassis control unit uses data analysis, including from the acceleration and wheel displacement sensors, to adapt the damping force of each wheel to the current situation within milliseconds. Via the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programs or a separate switch, the driver can pre-select one of three basic suspension configurations: from soft Comfort to firm Sport+.

The optional steering rear axle combines maneuverability and stability.

On request, the AMG GT 43 can be equipped with active rear axle steering (HAL). Depending on the speed, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction (up to 100 km/h) or in the same direction (over 100 km/h) as the front wheels. This solution increases maneuverability and stability. Additionally, the front wheel steering ratio can be more direct, meaning the vehicle will be easier to control at the limit of traction.

AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package – maximum driving pleasure

The AMG GT 43 is optionally available with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package, which includes numerous components designed for high performance:

  • AMG dynamic engine mounts connect the engine to the body more rigidly or more flexibly, depending on the driving situation. The result: the best balance between dynamics and comfort.
  • The electronically controlled rear axle locking differential distributes torque to the wheels even faster and more precisely during dynamic cornering and acceleration, guaranteeing maximum traction.
  • The RACE driving program delivers racing-like dynamics at the touch of a button, with even more spontaneous engine response.
  • An active aerodynamic element hidden in the chassis in front of the engine contributes to sportier handling. This is a carbon profile developed by AMG and protected by patents. Its position depends on the selected AMG driving program. The profile automatically extends to a length of approximately 40 mm at a speed of 80 km/h. This creates the so-called Venturi effect, which further pulls the car towards the road, reducing the lift of the front axle.
  • The increased performance potential is visually emphasized by the AMG brake callipers painted yellow.
  • Additionally, the buyer can order a fixed rear wing, which provides even greater downforce on the rear axle.

A purist with elegant features

The appearance of the AMG GT 43 stands out from the AMG family thanks to numerous details. Particularly striking is the new front bumper with large air intakes across the entire width. The elegant character is emphasized by narrower front and rear fenders and a reduced wheel track. New trim is also available for the front fenders. The rear bumper, also modified, is connected to round rather than trapezoidal exhaust tips.

Characteristic body features of the AMG GT include a long wheelbase, short overhangs, a long engine cover, a rearward cab with a steeply raked windshield and a muscular rear end. This creates typical GT proportions, giving the coupe a strong, dynamic appearance, which is further emphasized by the outer wheel surfaces, which are flush with the wheel arches. The AMG GT 43 comes with 19-inch alloy wheels as standard; Optionally available are other wheel options with a diameter of 19 or 20 inches, as well as forged wheels with a diameter of 21 inches.

Loading and unloading is made easy thanks to the large EASY PACK lid with HANDSFREE ACCESS function. The optional 2+2 seating arrangement enhances everyday usability; In this configuration, the AMG GT 43 offers plenty of space for travelers and their luggage. If necessary, the trunk can be increased by folding the rear seat backs.
