The BMW 5 Series Touring, the quintessence of driving pleasure, sporty elegance and modern functionality in the premium upper-middle class segment, is entering a new era. Thanks to numerous innovative digital solutions, innovative automated driving and parking systems, increased environmental friendliness throughout the product life cycle and – for the first time in the BMW i5 Touring – fully electric drive, the sixth generation of the model is more progressive than ever before.

Stylish appearance, sporty character, versatility and spacious comfort make the new BMW 5 Series Touring ideal for both everyday driving and touring.

New BMW 5 Series Touring in May 2024

The flexible drive architecture allows the production of various variants of this model with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines, plug-in hybrid systems and electric drives on a common production line at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing. Market launch in Germany, many other European countries and Japan will take place in May 2024, and in other markets in June 2024.

The exterior of the new BMW 5 Series Touring is characterized by dynamically elongated proportions and large surfaces. Compared to the previous model, its length has increased by 97 mm to 5060 mm, its width by 32 mm to 1900 mm, and its height by 17 mm to 1515 mm. The new BMW 5 Series Touring has the longest wheelbase in its class: it has been extended by 20 mm to 2,995 mm.

The distinctive front end features a modern interpretation of the typical BMW twin headlights and radiator grille. Two almost vertical LED elements serve as direction indicators and daytime running lights. BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting is available as an option for the very forward kidney grille. When viewed from the side, flat windows and a long roof spoiler underline the sporty and elegant design of the two-box vehicle. Massive rear wheel arches and a strongly raked rear window highlight the car's wide silhouette. The heavily overlapping LED taillight elements are separated by an L-shaped chrome strip.

At the start of sales, the range of body colors will include three BMW Individual paints. Electric and plug-in hybrid models come standard with 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. Light alloy wheels up to 21 inches are available as an option. The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Touring can be further emphasized with the options of the M Sports package, M Sports Pro package and M Carbon exterior package. As the top model of the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring series (combined), energy consumption: 20.8 - 18 .3 kWh/100 km WLTP) is equipped as standard with external components that enhance its exceptional driving dynamics.

The centerpiece of the progressive instrument panel, designed with the driver in mind, is the BMW Curved Display. The fully digital display unit includes a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. The modern, premium ambience in the cabin is underscored by the new standard sports seats, flat-bottom steering wheel and optional BMW Interactive Cluster.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring features a completely vegan interior as standard. Veganza upholstery with decorative perforations is optionally available. In addition, BMW Indian Merino leather upholstery is available in several two-tone options. Other optional features include a panoramic glass roof and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring offers more space and, especially in the rear, noticeably greater freedom of movement of the legs, arms and elbows, as well as greater acoustic comfort. With a versatile interior and a host of smart features, it impresses both on the road and in everyday driving.

The wider boot opening, combined with a low lip, makes loading large luggage easier. The luggage compartment volume of all variants of the new BMW 5 Series Touring can be increased from 570 to 1,700 liters – regardless of the drive technology. In addition to automatic tailgate operation, standard equipment also includes remote release of the 40:20:40 split rear seatback from the trunk. Storage compartments under the trunk floor can accommodate a cargo net, cargo cover and charging cable for electric and hybrid models.

The electric BMW i5 Touring is available in two variants from the outset.

The new BMW i5 Touring is the first premium electric model among its competitors. From the very beginning it will be offered in two variants. Connected Home Charging for electric and plug-in hybrid models provides charging conditions tailored to solar energy and load, as well as cost-effectiveness. Efficient diesel engines with 48V mild hybrid technology.

All diesel engines available in the new BMW 5 Series Touring are combined with a 48-volt mild hybrid system and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. On the top model, you can also choose the Adaptive M Suspension Professional with active roll stabilization and Active Roll Comfort function.

The partially automated driving and parking systems, available as standard or as an option for the new BMW 5 Series Touring, stand out from the competition thanks to their comprehensive range of functions and reliability. The most important package is the Professional driver assistance system, which includes steering and lane assist and remote control with Stop & Go function. In the US, Canada and Germany, it now includes Highway Assist, which relieves the driver of the need to drive on physically separated expressways. At speeds of up to 130 km/h, the driver can take his hands off the wheel and place them comfortably while he keeps a close eye on traffic. The system also includes a unique Active Lane Change Assist system with visual confirmation.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring is equipped as standard with Parking Assist, which includes launch control, trailer assist, reversing camera and reversing assistant. In turn, the optional Parking Assistant Professional allows automatic parking and maneuvering at a distance of up to 200 m, also controlled via a smartphone from outside the car.

BMW iDrive with "QuickSelect", video streaming and games AirConsole

The updated BMW iDrive display and control system based on the BMW operating system 8.5 includes a redesigned start screen and the QuickSelect function. The combination of the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is designed for operation via touch display and natural language. The BMW Live Cockpit Plus comes as standard with the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. The optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up Display and an extended view function in the Control Display or instrument cluster.

Streamlined smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ also comes standard. A personal eSIM as standard equipment fully integrates the vehicle with the customer's digital ecosystem. Thanks to the remote software update function, the new BMW 5 Series Touring will always use the latest software version. Some functions can also be tested and purchased in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.
