The new Range Rover Sport shows the potential of electrified power.

At the Electric Hybrid Challenge in Les Comes, near Barcelona, the Range Rover Sport hybrid demonstrated off-road capabilities using only electric power.

In the heart of Catalonia, the new Range Rover Sport Hybrid tackled a challenging off-road course, including rock climbing, on a single battery charge.

Red earth quarries, dusty and narrow serpentines winding through the surrounding hills - the area around Les Comes near Barcelona is a Mecca for drivers looking for off-road adventure. Anyone who wants to drive a hybrid Range Rover Sport off-road using only electric drive has to be careful with the gas pedal. Thus, he will retain full control when conquering hills with a slope of up to 32 degrees.

The Electric Hybrid Challenge route took the participants to a mountain peak 600 meters above sea level. It offers a breathtaking view of the Montserrat mountain range, which is about ten kilometers long and five kilometers wide. Enjoying the view of the magnificent mountain panorama, it was possible to move on to the next attempt. On the off-road track, where regular rallies were also held, the new Range Rover Sport was able to reach speeds of up to 90 km/h in electric mode.

The third-generation Range Rover Sport not only takes its looks and performance to the next level, but also boasts improved handling on asphalt and exceptional off-road performance. In addition to the latest Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (iAWD) system, Range Rover offers improved driving modes and the latest driving dynamics technologies.

The award-winning Terrain Response 2 off-road driving system automatically detects and intelligently adjusts settings based on terrain, while the Pivi Pro touch screen displays a driver image to inform the driver of obstacles awaiting the vehicle. The system even lets you keep an eye on what's happening right in front of the front wheels. The new Range Rover Sport is also the first Range Rover to feature off-road adaptive cruise control, allowing the driver to fully concentrate on off-road driving.

Hybrid Range Rover Sport P510e

The new Range Rover Sport P510e combines the strengths of a 3.0-litre six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a powerful 105 kW (141 hp) electric motor. The combined output of the P510e is 375 kW (503 hp) and 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. The electric motor is powered by a 38.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. Autonomy on electricity according to WLTP is up to 113 kilometers, which corresponds to an average real range of 88 kilometers. During the entire period of the Electric Hybrid Challenge, drivers use only the electric mode and do not recharge the batteries on the route.

Stuntman: Mark Higgins

The special guest of the Electric Hybrid Challenge was a stuntman who took part in the recording of the chase scenes for the James Bond saga. Mark Higgins has driven Range Rover models on the set of Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectrum and No Time to Die. Higgins won the British Rally Championship three times.

“It takes confidence and determination to push boundaries,” says Mark Higgins after successfully completing the Electric Hybrid Challenge. Often it's not so much about speed, but about willpower and good feeling on the accelerator pedal. With the new Range Rover Sport Electric Hybrid, we have shown what can be achieved when cutting-edge technology and craftsmanship go hand in hand.

Built for tough challenges: Range Rover Sport

The ability to take on new challenges is in the DNA of every Range Rover Sport. The new, third generation of the model demonstrated its capabilities at world premieres in May 2022 during the Spillway Challenge, that is, the most adrenaline-filled ride in the Karahnyukar adit in Iceland. Other previous achievements include the record-breaking Pikes Peak ascent, the first recorded run through the Arabian Peninsula's Empty Quarter desert, and the first ascent of 99 dizzying turns and 999 steps to Heaven's Gate at the 2018 China Dragon Challenge.

In the latest, the previous-generation Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid became the first vehicle ever to climb Mount Tianmen in China.
