Hyundai Motor Company today unveiled the elegant and timeless design of the long-awaited IONIQ 6, the second in the IONIQ line, dedicated exclusively to electric vehicles. IONIQ 6, which Hyundai describes as an electrified Streamliner.*, is aerodynamically shaped and uses environmentally friendly materials in an innovative way to reflect the values that today's EV buyers appreciate.

Inspired by the Hyundai Prophecy EV concept, the IONIQ 6 features clean, straight lines and a clean aerodynamic shape that Hyundai's designers call emotional efficiency. The IONIQ 6's electrified, streamlined type and cocoon-like interior embody the silhouette of a new era of electric mobility, while the overall design theme of "Ethical Uniqueness" reflects Hyundai's customer-centric commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

“IONIQ 6 combines an emotional convergence of functionality with aesthetics,” said Sang Yup Lee, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Design Center. “The distinctive, streamlined design is the result of a close collaboration between engineers and designers, with an obsessive attention to detail and customer-centric values. We created IONIQ 6 with a thoughtful interior that offers a personalized space for everyone.”

The human-centered design of the IONIQ 6 is both ethical and unique.

IONIQ 6 demonstrates ethical and unique design through energy efficiency and sustainable use of materials. The design of IONIQ 6 has been human-centered from the beginning, and the interior space has evolved along with the exterior shape. Efforts have been made to maximize and optimize interior space by stretching it front and rear, resulting in a uniquely streamlined silhouette and spacious interior.

Like the award-winning Hyundai IONIQ 5, the IONIQ 6 follows the Hyundai Look design strategy, which gives each model a unique chessboard-like look. With a customer-centric approach, Hyundai designs with diverse lifestyles in mind rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Streamliner* with an elegant yet functional aesthetic

IONIQ 6 is an electrified Streamliner* that realizes the idea of emotional efficiency while meeting the aesthetic and functional needs of the client. The aerodynamically sculpted silhouette with simple yet sensual curves offers a new typology in the age of electromobility.

The IONIQ 6 has a very low drag coefficient of just 0.211, aided by a low front end, active front air intakes, reduced wheelbase and slim digital side mirrors. In addition to the enviable aerodynamic capabilities of the IONIQ 6, its elliptical winglet spoiler, sleek tail section and splitter lights on both sides of the rear bumper create an elliptical winglet. Even under the car, the desire for better aerodynamics is evident in the full underbody protection, optimized fairings and reduced wheel arch clearance.

IONIQ 6 uses over 700 parametric pixels in various locations such as the headlights, rear combination lamps, front lower gauges, air vent embellishments, and center console indicators to bring out the IONIQ brand identity throughout the vehicle.

The parametric, pixelated third brake light in the rear wing provides eye-catching illumination when braking. To further emphasize the uniqueness of the IONIQ 6, the new Hyundai “H” logo design is located on the front and rear of the vehicle.

The cocoon-style interior provides thoughtful personal space on wheels.

The cocoon-shaped interior of the IONIQ 6 doubles as a comfortable personal space, full of practical features and eco-friendly materials to promote conscious, eco-friendly mobility.

Hyundai Motor Group's Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) has enabled designers to expand the interior front and rear to create optimized legroom and spaciousness that allows passengers to feel comfortable in the car. The platform also provides a perfectly flat floor, giving the impression of spaciousness.

An example of a user-centric interior architecture is the ergonomic control unit, centrally located to reduce distractions and promote safe and intuitive driving. The modular touch-screen instrument cluster combines a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen display with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. The center console of the bridge type provides convenient and roomy storage of things in the car.

The interior of the IONIQ 6 is illuminated with two-tone decorative lighting. Users can choose from a palette of 64 colors and six two-tone themes designed by color experts to help drivers and passengers feel relaxed and comfortable. The 4-dot interactive pixel lighting on the steering wheel makes it easy to communicate between the driver and the car. Removing buttons from the front door improved the feeling of spaciousness and provided more storage space. Transparent accents on the dashboard, door pockets and lower console further enhance the sense of spaciousness and uniqueness.

Ecological materials used for sustainable development

In keeping with the Ethical Uniqueness theme of IONIQ 6 and inspired by today's environmentally conscious consumers, the designers used durable materials for the exterior, including recycled pigment paint from used tires for the cladding and pigment paint from bamboo charcoal for the bodywork.

The interior of the IONIQ 6 is also finished with eco-friendly materials and colors. Depending on the trim level, these include eco-leather (seats), recycled PET material (seats), bio-TPO leather (dashboard), bio-PET fabric (ceiling), bio-based paints derived from vegetable oils (doors) and floor mats processing of fishing nets caught in the sea.

IONIQ 6 on digital billboards and world premiere

Showcasing the streamlined design and flexible interior of the IONIQ 6, the film can be viewed at K-POP Circus in Seoul, Piccadilly Circus in London, and the Great Kahuna in Times Square in New York.
