First high-performance BMW M GmbH models with 48V technology

The engines of the new BMW X5 M Competition and the latest generation of the new BMW X6 M Competition are equipped with 48-volt technology for the first time in the brand's high-performance vehicles. The electric motor, integrated into the compact housing of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, also functions as a reversible generator on the crankshaft and provides up to 9 kW (12 hp) of additional power and 200 Nm of torque. The energy required for this is supplied by a 48-volt battery located in the engine compartment. It charges particularly efficiently thanks to adaptive regeneration during engine braking and braking.

48-volt technology is offered in combination with the new M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. In addition to the inter-row exhaust manifold, the 4.4-liter engine now also features a reinforced crank, upgraded turbocharger, new air intake and optimized lubrication and oil separation. The maximum torque of 750 Nm is available from 1800 to 5800 rpm. The engine develops a maximum power of 460 kW (625 hp) at 6000 rpm.
