CUPRA introduces the hybrid Formentor

The Spanish brand is expanding its own CUV offering with two hybrid drive versions. The total power of the CUPRA Formentor e-HYBRID will be 204 hp, and the Formentor VZ e-HYBRID - 245 hp. The range of electric vehicles is 59 and 55 km, respectively. The first devices will go on sale in select markets in March.

The popularity of hybrids is growing

The hybrid CUPRA Formentor is in line with the brand's strategy of producing models that combine electric drive with sporty performance. The CUPRA Leon and Sportstourer hybrid hatchbacks are available on the market, while the dynamic urban electric car CUPRA el-Born is scheduled to debut in the second half of 2021.

“CUPRA Formentor e-HYBRID is the quintessence of the brand,” says Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA and SEAT. “The model will enable us to achieve our goal of doubling last year's sales results in 2021. The Formentor is expected to account for 50% sales this year, half of which will be plug-in hybrid. Sales of electric hybrids in European markets rose from 5.7% in 2019 to 11.9% in 2020. We predict that this trend will continue, allowing the electrification of the industry to continue.

It is expected that the release of new versions of Formentor will soon reach 100 copies per day. This will reduce global CO2 emissions and achieve values in line with European criteria.

Sports performance, sustainable combustion

Both hybrid front-wheel drive versions of the Formentor combine a 1.4-liter TSI engine with 150 hp. and an electric unit with a capacity of 115 hp. Electricity is stored in lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 13 kWh.

Depending on technological solutions, cars produce 204 or 245 hp. The Formentor e-HYBRID version has speeds from 0 to 100 km/h. in 7.8 seconds and accelerates to a maximum of 205 km / h. On the other hand, the Formentor VZ e-HYBRID variant reaches speeds of up to 100 km/h. in 7 seconds and its top speed is 210 km/h.

The use of hybrid drive has significantly reduced CUPRA's fuel consumption. According to the WLTP test results, they are only 1.2-1.4 l / 100 km for the Formentor e-HYBRID and 1.4-1.6 l / 100 km for the Formentor VZ e-HYBRID. Batteries with a total capacity of 13 kWh also allow you to travel more than 50 km on a single charge without harmful emissions.

Practical Solutions

The CUPRA Formentor e-HYBRID starts in electric mode as standard. The drive switches to hybrid mode when the battery charge drops below a certain level or when the vehicle accelerates to 140 km/h. The driver can use the default settings in Hybrid-Auto mode, which automatically optimizes energy consumption, or select one of the three options available in Hybrid-Manual mode: maintaining the current state of charge, determining what level of stored energy the car should not exceed, and the function charging with an internal combustion engine. The battery can also be controlled remotely using the CUPRA Connect mobile app.

The chassis and powertrain of the CUPRA Formentora e-HYBRID work together to deliver driving dynamics never seen before in a hybrid vehicle. The chassis was adapted to the new version of the model, and the weight distribution was different from the internal combustion options. In addition, MacPherson struts and multi-link rear axle suspension provide driving comfort from the very first moment the car is launched. Depending on aesthetic preferences, customers can also choose between 18-inch and 19-inch wheels.

The CUPRA Formentor eHYBRID is 4450mm long, 1839mm wide and 1510mm high, providing ample headroom for passengers. In addition, the 2680 mm wheelbase provides ample legroom for rear passengers. Travelers will also appreciate the practical luggage compartment of 345 liters.
