The new Volkswagen ID.4 is presented in all its glory
The just unveiled new Volkswagen ID.4 is an all-electric SUV that will be built and sold in China, the US and Europe. It is a strategic model for brand promotion in the field of electric vehicles. Buyers of the ID.4 will receive a car manufactured in such a way that it will not affect the overall carbon dioxide balance. If they choose to charge its battery with electricity from renewable sources, the ID.4 will remain a climate-neutral vehicle while in service.

Body Volkswagen ID.4 length of 4.58 meters is spacious and solid. Streamlined forms predominate in his style. The design of the ID.4 reflects the durability typical of SUVs and meets the demands of aerodynamics in a refined manner, with a Cx value of just 0.28. In addition to the streamlined body shape, a number of details contribute to this outstanding result, such as a roof edge spoiler and taillights to prevent air turbulence behind the car.
The solid ID.4 feels solid and athletic, and the large wheels (even 21-inch alloys will be available) speak to its sporty character. The wide and massive rear end gives the car a dynamic look, and the sloping roof line visually lengthens the car. The rear roof pillars are strongly inclined, the rear of the body turns out to be stylistically refined, as well. thanks to skillfully applied ribs.
ID.4 uses new lighting technologies. These include IQ.Light interactive LED matrix lights that greet the driver via an LED module when the doors are unlocked. These headlights emit intelligent high beams that illuminate the road surface very effectively without dazzling oncoming drivers. The 3D technology rear lights contain so-called dynamic turn indicators, in which individual LEDs light up sequentially from the center to the edges of the lights. The rear lights have a particularly plastic shape thanks to special 3D LEDs placed individually in the lampshade.
The ID.4 cab is designed as an "open space", like all Volkswagen models of the ID family. The panoramic glass sunroof covers almost the entire length of the car and lets in plenty of natural light. The center console, freely configurable and not connected to the dashboard, helps to keep the interior tidy. The airbag, located between the front seats and deployed in the event of a side collision, enhances the already high level of passive safety. The luggage compartment volume of the Volkswagen ID.4 is 543 liters and can be increased to 1575 liters by folding the rear seatbacks (measured to the roof). Thanks to the optional towbar, the Volkswagen electric SUV is capable of towing a trailer weighing 1000 kg (with brake load, on a slope of 12 degrees).
Volkswagen has equipped its first electric SUV with a state-of-the-art on-board operating system. There are no mechanical buttons or switches on the dashboard, giving it a simple and modern look. The most important information is displayed on a small screen in front of the driver, the selection of information is controlled from the multifunction steering wheel. On the right edge of the screen there is a knob for selecting driving modes. In the center of the dashboard is a large touch screen for navigation, phone, multimedia, auxiliary systems and vehicle settings.
Just ahead of the ID.4's rear axle is an electric motor that drives the wheels through a single-speed gearbox. It is a small, lightweight and highly efficient permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM). The ID.4 uses a 150 kW (204 hp) unit with 310 Nm of torque and is available immediately after launch. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h takes 8.5 seconds, the maximum speed of the car is limited to 160 km / h. The offer also includes the ID.4 with an even more powerful engine and all-wheel drive. With good traction and a ground clearance of 21 cm, the Volkswagen electric SUV will also perform well on light off-road terrain.
